Setting up grading scales, terms and GPA

The one-time setup that the gradebook and transcripts rely on.

The grading engine has two layers: a quick gradebook under Academics for everyday results, and the full engine for scales, categories, GPA and transcripts. This guide covers the setup you do once per term.

Scales, terms and GPA

Open Grading and then Scales, terms & GPA.

  1. Define your grading scale, such as letter grades or percentages. Dars-e-Nizami institutions can use a traditional scale.
  2. Create reporting terms and link them to the academic year's terms.
  3. Set up a GPA configuration. Masira keeps a separate GPA for academic, Dars-e-Nizami and Hifz tracks, so a blended transcript does not mix unlike grades.

Grade categories and rules

Grade categories hold the weights, such as classwork 30 percent and exams 70 percent. Weights must total 100 percent. Calculation rules turn category scores into final grades per subject, and learning standards can be scored alongside marks for standards-based grading.

Where grades come from

Grades are entered in the Gradebook tab, or from the simpler Gradebook module under Academics for quick results by exam. Both feed the same engine.
