School calendar setup: Hijri, prayer times and holidays

Set up the calendar that drives lessons, attendance and portals.

The school calendar is the single source of truth for dates and times: academic years, terms, holidays, occasions, prayer times and every scheduled lesson. It can show the Hijri and Gregorian calendars side by side.

First-time setup

Open Calendar and then its settings.

  1. Set your timezone and location. Location drives prayer times.
  2. Choose a prayer calculation method, such as MWL, ISNA, Egypt, Makkah, Karachi, Gulf or Turkey, and the Asr school.
  3. Choose whether dates are shown in Gregorian, Hijri or both.

Years, terms and holidays

Create the academic year and its terms on the Years & terms tab. Add holidays and occasions such as Ramadan breaks, the two Eids and national holidays. When you add a holiday, Masira applies it to lessons already scheduled on those dates.

Prayer times and occasions

Prayer times are calculated for your institution's location and shown through the day. Occasions such as Ramadan can shorten or reshape the day. Use the Hijri adjustments tab to match the calculated Hijri date with local moon sighting.

Views and export

  • The month grid shows dual dates with color-coded entries.
  • The agenda lists what is coming.
  • The lessons week shows scheduled lessons per class.
  • Export the calendar as an .ics file to Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar.
